Chapter 01 · The court

Dimensions and sanctioning.

Chapter 03 · FFT sanctioning levels

Three tiers, three ambitions.

Club level to get started, regional level to step up, national level for major events. The international level is reserved for FFT opens. Click a card to see its detailed requirements.

FFT advice: for a first tournament, start at club or regional level. To organise a national-level tournament, the club must already have organised at least one regional-level tournament.

Chapter 04 · Match formats

Three official formats.

The FFT defines three formats. Every match carries the same weighting (1) for the rankings. A 2-point margin is always required.

FFT recommended format: pools + a straight knockout draw (TDL). At least 2 seeds per pool. The “snake seeding” method keeps levels balanced.

Chapter 05 · Ranking points

How many points per tournament?

Points depend on the tournament category, the playing level, the draw size and the final placing. Results must be sent to pickleball@fft.fr within 72 hours.

Club-level points do not depend on the playing level (single level); club-level tournaments are closed to 5.0 players. The international level is reserved for FFT opens (Open de France, Open d'hiver): the values are shown for reference, as the points players earn at these tournaments.

Unjustified walkover: the player/team does not score the points for the round and is placed last in the previous round. A medical certificate can be provided within 1 week to justify a walkover.

Chapter 06 · Organiser checklist

Check everything, forget nothing.

Eight topics to review before and during the tournament. Tick items off as you go: your progress is saved locally in your browser.

Chapter 07 · Glossary

The vocabulary to know.

Official terms, FFT abbreviations and pickleball-specific concepts, useful for organising a sanctioned tournament.

Kitchen
The non-volley zone (NVZ), 2.13 m deep on each side of the net. Volleying from inside it is not allowed.

The serve AND the return must both bounce. After that, volleys are allowed.
Dink

Third shot drop
The third shot of the rally, dropped into the kitchen so the serving team can move up to the net.
Side out
The serve passes to the other side after a lost rally. In doubles, once both servers have lost their serve.
Erne
A shot where the player jumps over the corner of the kitchen to hit a volley.
Stacking
A formation where partners line up on the same side before the serve.
Let
A serve that touches the net but lands in the correct service court. Replayed since 2024.
Justified walkover
A walkover backed by a medical certificate: the player keeps the points for the round reached.
Unjustified walkover
A walkover without a valid reason: placed last in the previous round, and the points are lost.
JAT
Juge-Arbitre de Tournoi (tournament referee). The official responsible for the smooth running of the competition.
JAE
Juge-Arbitre d'Épreuve (event referee). Assists the JAT at major tournaments.
ADOC
The FFT's federation application for sanctioning and managing tournaments.
